Art, like money, has to circulate. We are not going to enter any lengthy debate regarding such a brutal association between materialistic and spiritual wealth. The thing is that the value of art, like money, is measured here on Earth by the power of circulation. You probably know better than us how important promotion is.
Watumi Festival & Fringe’s mission is to gather a large public during the 5 days of the festival and we are not referring simply to the general public, your audience, we are talking about specialists interested in the cultural phenomenon, people powerful enough to change somebody’s life. You would probably want to attract their attention, the type of people that can help you access resources so you can see your artistic dream come true.
WFF is promoted as a whole entity in the main media channels (press, radio, TV, online, etc) but every artist is encouraged to promote their own performance at the festival to the best of their ability.
May we take the liberty to suggest a few possible ways to promote your art?
- Please tell all your friends and your friends’ friends about your participation in the event. Its the easiest way to gather together a group of loyal fans that love you and your art
- Think about a creative strategy to promote yourself on the internet. Email everyone and invite them to come and see you; are you a member of a social networking site? Let everyone know, write on yours and your friends’ blogs and tell everyone you are performing at Watumi. Surely you have some brilliant ideas yourself to get the internet community to come and see you at Watumi.
- Word of mouth; inexpensive but powerful tool to attract a large public
- As soon as your participation at the festival is confirmed, you will be promoted on the festival’s official website and in the WFF programme. Please make sure you fill in the application form carefully and take your time in choosing the right words to describe you and your act. In some cases this will be the first point of contact between you, your art and the public and the deciding factor in whether they will come and see you or not.
- Posters and flyers are an efficient way of sending a message outside your inner circle. Don’t forget to mention the name of the event, date, time and location. It is vital that all the printed material contains the WFF logo, easily downloadable from the website. Please make sure you obtain the relevant permission before you display the material.
