Watumi Festival & Fringe will meet artists and the public in an inimitable way in Brasov between 22nd-26th July. Every day, hundreds of artists, hundreds of shows and events, partners, volunteers and, of course, the general public will all recreate the colour and the buzz of great festivals.
Watumi opens with an explosive parade where both professionals and volunteers participate. It starts at Sica Alexandrescu Theatre, carries on towards “Eroilor Street”, proceeds down “Muresenilor Street”, ending in “Piata Sfatului” (Council Square) where Paula Seling will perform.
We will experiment with drama and its classical format. Performances will not only be in theatres but in unconventional spaces, making use of open air, coffee bars, terraces as well as in parks and on the streets. WFF public will be spoiled with over 35 productions (over 70 shows) in the theatre section, amongst them Changpa group from South Korea with their highly acclaimed show “Doodri Doodri”, Turkish theatre – Actor Studio Antalya Regional Theatre, presenting the show “The Fire and the Betrayal”, Anca Sigartau and 1-Q Sapro with “How I gave up thinking” from Metropolis Theatre Bucharest, AL NostruM with “Teatru Sport” and “OM.ON.OFF.”, Dell’ Arte Company with “Alice”, improvisation shows with Improvisneyland, “3 Nights with Madox” by Matei Visnec, stand up comedy with Tiberiu Popovici from Café Deko and the list continues.
There will be over 30 bands taking to the stage, including Suie Paparude, the Amsterdams, Pixels, Blazzaj, Aria Urbana, Paula Seling, Mes Quins, The Others, Tep Zepi, Rain District, Van Cramp, Imago Mundi, Bucharest AV, Astorpia Tango Quinted to name but a few, performing live shows everyday.
Over 40 artists and photographers will exhibit, plus a selection of short films will be shown during the whole duration of the festival. In the handicraft section over 100 artists will exhibit and sell their creations. The festival includes many shows created specifically for children, designed to develop their imagination and creativity. Workshops will be run by groups of experts in theatre, film, photography and urban art, with loads more street events.
Actors, musicians, artists, acrobats, photographers, comedians, mime artists, dancers, directors, sculptors all gather in the wonderful world created by Watumi, where they find the freedom to know, explore, think and express themselves. They are all eager to showcase their art, to a public hungry for fresh, unique cultural diversity brought by the new wave of thinking. Therefore, during the five days of Watumi, we will have a Brasov bubbling with enthusiasm, friendly, alive and animated, from now on The City of Arts and Artists.
Watumi Festival & Fringe portrays itself as a world class arts and culture festival, enabling all artists to express themselves and encouraging the public to embrace the ethos.
